OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME

SUPPORTS A STUDENT-CENTRED APPROACH

Within the PYP, we believe that students are active participants in their own learning. By creating learning environments grounded in play, exploration, and inquiry, we encourage our students to develop curiosity, ask meaningful questions, and construct understanding from their learning experiences.

Throughout this process, we guide students in recognising their individual interests, setting goals, and gradually taking greater responsibility for their own learning journey. In doing so, students experience making choices, taking decisions, and developing the capacity to direct their own learning.

We value opportunities for our students to explore the world in natural, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate ways. We provide safe and supportive learning environments in which they can express their ideas, share their perspectives, and have an active voice in their learning.

As educators, we:

  • Listen to and observe our students attentively,
  • Value their ideas, perspectives, and contributions,
  • Encourage their curiosity and desire to explore,
  • Guide and encourage them throughout the learning process,
  • Respect each student’s individual developmental pace and learning needs.

Our aim is to nurture individuals who enjoy learning, remain curious, engage in inquiry, take responsibility, and gradually develop the capacity to manage and direct their own learning. Through this approach, we support students in becoming confident, increasingly independent, and active participants both in school life and in their everyday experiences.

IS FLEXIBLE AND RESPONSIVE

The PYP is founded on the understanding that every child has unique interests, developmental characteristics, learning needs, and individual ways of progressing. Therefore, we design our educational programme as a flexible and responsive framework that can be adapted in accordance with the needs of our students.

When planning learning experiences, our teachers take into account students’ interests, areas of curiosity, prior experiences, and developmental levels. This enables us to make learning more meaningful, engaging, accessible, and effective for every student.

Through this flexible approach, we:

  • Support each student’s individual development and learning process,
  • Build on students’ interests and curiosity to make learning more meaningful, motivating, and enduring,
  • Adapt learning experiences, activities, and teaching practices according to students’ individual needs,
  • Implement our programme in alignment with the requirements of the national curriculum.

This approach provides students with opportunities to recognise their strengths, develop confidence in their abilities, and establish positive attitudes towards learning.

We aim to create rich and supportive learning environments in which every child is provided with opportunities to realise their potential.

IS ORGANISED AROUND TRANSDISCIPLINARY THEMES

Within the IB Primary Years Programme, learning is not approached as a collection of isolated subject areas. Instead, it is organised around transdisciplinary themes that enable children to understand the world in an interconnected and holistic manner.

Through this approach, students establish meaningful connections among knowledge, concepts, and skills from different disciplines, enabling deeper and more enduring learning.

The PYP identifies six transdisciplinary themes that are shared by PYP learning communities around the world and that address significant aspects of human experience.

The Six PYP Transdisciplinary Themes

  1. Who We Are
  2. Where We Are in Place and Time
  3. How We Express Ourselves
  4. How the World Works
  5. How We Organize Ourselves
  6. Sharing the Planet

Through inquiries developed within these themes, our students:

  • Explore significant issues connected to their everyday lives and the wider world,
  • Ask questions and conduct inquiries into topics that stimulate their curiosity,
  • Explore and appreciate different perspectives,
  • Connect new learning with their own experiences,
  • Develop understanding rather than simply memorising information.

Through the learning experiences developed within each theme, students do more than acquire new knowledge. They learn to interpret information, apply their understanding in different contexts, make connections, and develop a deeper awareness of the world around them.

In this way, we view learning as a natural and meaningful process that extends beyond the classroom and becomes connected to all aspects of life.

PLAY IS A CENTRAL PATHWAY TO INQUIRY

We recognise that play is not merely an enjoyable activity for children; it is also a powerful means through which they explore, experience, interpret, and make sense of the world. Particularly in the early years, play is one of the most natural and effective contexts for learning.

For this reason, we position play as an integral component of both learning and inquiry. During play, students become curious, ask questions, experiment, investigate possibilities, solve problems, make decisions, and engage in new discoveries. Learning therefore becomes an active, authentic, meaningful, and enjoyable experience.

Through our play-based approach to learning, we:

  • Foster students’ curiosity and desire to explore,
  • Encourage imagination and creativity,
  • Provide opportunities to establish social relationships and collaborate with others,
  • Develop thinking and problem-solving skills,
  • Create space for students to express themselves freely and confidently,
  • Support students in experiencing learning as an enjoyable and meaningful process.

We carefully observe students during play and use these observations to identify their interests, questions, emerging understandings, and developmental needs. We then draw on this evidence to enrich and extend subsequent learning experiences.

In this way, play becomes a valuable learning context that both supports children’s holistic development and establishes meaningful connections with intended learning outcomes.

Our aim is for all students to experience the excitement of learning through play, develop confidence in themselves as learners, and recognise learning as a natural and lifelong process.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF OUR LEARNING COMMUNITY

Within the PYP, we recognise that learning is not limited to the school environment. We believe that children’s development is most effectively supported when schools and families work collaboratively as partners in the learning process.

Accordingly, we regard families as essential partners in each student’s educational journey. When children experience a learning community in which the important adults in their lives communicate, collaborate, and support one another, they are more likely to feel secure, valued, and actively engaged in their learning.

Our learning community includes students, families, teachers, school staff, and other significant adults who contribute to children’s lives. Together, we support students’ academic, social, emotional, and personal development.

Through Family Engagement, We:

  • Help students recognise that learning takes place not only at school but throughout everyday life,
  • Strengthen connections between learning at school and experiences at home, making learning more meaningful and enduring,
  • Develop a more comprehensive understanding of each student’s development and respond more effectively to individual needs,
  • Build strong communication and collaboration between school and family, supporting students’ sense of security and belonging,
  • Encourage positive attitudes towards learning by ensuring that students experience consistent support from both school and home.

By establishing a strong partnership between school and family, we aim to create a coherent, supportive, and inclusive learning environment in which every student can develop as a confident, curious, responsible, and engaged learner.
